Cataract surgery after laser eye surgery: ensuring accuracy
Dr. Arthur Hammer presents a study describing a new formula based on pachymetry to refine the surgical planning of patients who have already undergone laser surgery. This simple approach significantly improves the accuracy of visual results.

Post-LASIK cataract: a new calculation method for more precision
Planning cataract surgery for patients who have already undergone laser refractive surgery (LASIK) is a particular challenge. The change in corneal curvature makes the power calculations of Pseudophakes LIO less accurate, which may impact the final visual result.
I am delighted to share our latest published study, which proposes an innovative approach to address this problem:
What to take away from this research:
- A new approach: We have highlighted how the corneal pachymetry (corneal thickness measurement) can help more accurately determine the power changes induced by an older LASIK treatment.
- Simplicity and precision: The study describes a new, easy-to-use formula to help surgeons better plan the procedure and optimize the choice of IOL power.
- A direct benefit for the patient: This method makes it possible to refine post-operative results and to offer a vision more faithful to the expectations of patients who have already undergone laser surgery.
This publication is the result of a fascinating collaboration and is part of my constant desire to improve the precision of results in anterior segment surgery.
