DMEK corneal transplants: optimizing donor screening for graft survival

“I am happy to announce the publication of our latest article in the Journal of Ophthalmic & Vision Research:

“Donor-implanted Guttata in Transplanted Corneal Tissue: Clinical Signs and Impact on Graft Survival”

I warmly thank my co-authors and colleagues for this collaboration: Dr. Ammatul Takaza, dr. Mark Lane, sir. Azizur Rahman and Dr. Alfonso Vasquez-Perez.

In this case series, we describe the presence of Guttata implanted from donor origin within the corneal tissue after DMEK type lamellar endothelial keratoplasty, by highlighting clinical signs, diagnostic difficulties and the potential impact on graft survival.

Our results highlight the importance of a more rigorous screening of donors with Fuchs Endothelial Dystrophy, especially in cases of unexplained postoperative edema or early graft failure.”
